Production Terms & Conditions

1. Refunds and Returns

Conveyor Studio does not issue refunds on orders once in production. If an order is canceled at any point, Conveyor Studio will be entitled to recover all costs incurred since billing—including materials and labor. In the case of a production error, Conveyor Studio reserves the right to either reprint or grant a partial refund on the order.

2. Shipping

Clients are responsible for any and all shipping costs. Our products are shipped via USPS and UPS (and final orders through UPS unless otherwise requested).

For local clients, we offer the option of a messenger service to deliver your final order or for you to pick up books in person from our factory. Under no circumstance will Conveyor Studio be responsible for the costs involved in shipping or transporting books, or any damage caused to the books once they have left our factory.

3. Two-Stage Billing

Stage 1: For invoices under $1,500, a 100% deposit is required. For invoices over $1,500, a 50% deposit is required. Payment is required to begin production on all projects.

Stage 2: The remaining project balance, shipping and handling, and overage if applicable, must be paid in full before the final order ships.

4. Project Estimate Terms

Our project estimates and invoices are valid for 30 days. If a deposit is not made, the prices are subject to change based on materials and other production costs.

5. Overage

A 10% difference in quantity ordered is allowed on all printed goods. Overage and shortage will be handled on a prorated basis. Overage will be billed to the client, and shortage will be refunded by Conveyor Studio in the final billing stage.

6. Production Timeline

The production timeline takes effect when the client completes the following: approves their printed proof via email, submits final files, and makes a deposit.

Every reasonable effort is made to meet our anticipated delivery dates. Conveyor Studio shall not claim any liability for damages, incurred cost, or loss of income sustained by the client due to delays in the production and delivery of their project.

We highly recommend that clients do not schedule a book launch until the final books are delivered. We will do everything possible to complete your books by your deadline; however, custom print projects, especially books, can involve many stages of production and sometimes need extra time to produce due to unforeseen manufacturing issues.

7. File Submission

We require PDFs that follow our Tech Specs. For projects that print duotone or projects that require additional prepress work, we require a packaged InDesign file. If incorrectly set up files are submitted more than 2x, we reserve the right to charge a $75 file resubmission fee.

We strongly encourage that all artwork be converted to CMYK prior to printing. When artwork is sent to the press in RGB, the press automatically converts the files to CMYK on the fly using a perceptual rendering intent which can cause loss of luminosity in artwork and uncontrollable tonal shifts. For the most predictable results, we strongly recommended that all artwork be converted to CMYK prior to exporting your PDF. Instructions for converting your image files to CMYK can be found in our Tech Specs.

8. Proof Costs

Printed proofs are available to purchase on our website. Once the project is in production, the cost of one Unbound Proof will be deducted from the final invoice. Shipping and handling fees will not be reimbursed.

9. Proof Review

It is the responsibility of the client to carefully review their printed proofs and submit final files to Conveyor Studio as promptly as possible. Any scheduling time lost due to delays in reviewing proofs or communication about production details regarding an order will be the responsibility of the client.

Our printed proofs are valid for 60 days from shipment from Conveyor Studio. If 60 days elapse without approval to print, we will not guarantee matching results. Therefore, we suggest that the client purchase another printed proof.

Upon receiving their proof, clients may make changes and resubmit files one time free of charge. Files that require multiple submissions—due to typos, wrong file, change of layout, etc.—will be charged for additional setup of $50 per file (or $150 per hour where prepress work is involved).

Letterpress, lamination, foil stamp, duplexed components, and other custom finishes are not included in the proofing process. If you require a physical proof for these elements, please specify via email. Longer production turnaround and additional setup fees will apply.

10. Color Reproduction

We do not accept match prints. Conveyor Studio retains a duplicate set of proofs to be used as a reference during the press run. We are not responsible for color matching when files have been resubmitted without an additional round of proofing. If the client decides to forgo proofing their project, the reproduction quality will not be guaranteed to match the client’s expectations. In this case, Conveyor Studio will accept no liability for work that is not to our client’s expectations.

11. Production Disclosure

The materials we stock have been tested and guaranteed by Conveyor Studio. All custom materials, paper stocks, binding styles, and finishing styles that fall outside of Conveyor Studio’s proven working methods are subject to longer production time or unsatisfactory results (some materials don’t play well with others). Projects that include full-bleed images or design elements nearer than .375 inch from the trim edge may result in obvious shift or loss during the trimming process (this also applies to text on book spines). Heavy printed coverage of inks on exterior surfaces may result in scuffing or scratching and cannot be guaranteed without the addition of lamination. In most cases, lamination will help subdue scratching; but with dark colors, matte lamination can show scratches and scuffing (which can be easily removed using alcohol or glass cleaner). Conveyor Studio does not guarantee the archival longevity of its books and printed products. Items exposed to direct sunlight, humidity, oil, or dirt may incur damage. Conveyor Studio’s books and printed products are crafted by hand, and variations will occur.

12. Image Rights

Conveyor Studio reserves the right to photograph the projects we produce for use on our website and social media, as well as in lectures, workshops, and other public platforms. We will do our best to credit the artist, designer, and collaborators of the project in social media posts and on our website. When possible, Conveyor Studio keeps a printer’s copy of each book to display in our studio as a project sample; these books are not sold or distributed. If the client does not agree to the above, they should request a nondisclosure agreement before production begins.
